The term “Malerba” (or weeds) refers to plants that appear to have no useful function. Additionally, they grow in an uncontrolled manner in the city, giving the impression that the place where they flourish is “dirty” or degraded.
The weeds take centre stage as the only actor and protagonist in this artwork. Presented on large-scale screens, their “fragile nature” is magnified, and they dominate the space that accommodates their presence. The artwork is broadcasted on public screens, and the audience traverses the environment where these seemingly minor plants transform into expansive forests. Here, we witness the creation of “impossible woods” where nettle, thistle and other weeds are represented as large as trees, suggesting a setting untouched by human intervention and devoid of selective species.
The “impossible woods” are re-created through artificial intelligence, as neural networks merge, encompassing weeds, trees and forests, to recreate a magnificent and unique environment.

Quiet Ensemble, a creative studio, crafts immersive audiovisual experiences. They blend nature and technology in interactive installations, exploring their balance. Celebrating "invisible concerts," they unveil overlooked aspects of our environment, merging the natural world with technology for impactful creations.
Founded in 2009 by Fabio di Salvo and Bernardo Vercelli.
In their research, Quiet Ensemble observes the balance between chaos and control, nature and technology. They create subjects that merge those elements, utilising the relationship between organic and artificial subjects to give them form. Their focus lies on seemingly insignificant yet wonderful elements, like the movement of a fly or the sound of trees.
