The Cha Chaan Teng CODEX: Tales of Invisible Designs
In-depth Dialogue: Curators × Lui Ka Chun (Food Culture Specialist)
A Cha Chaan Teng is far more than just a place to satisfy hunger; it is a profound study of design rooted in local folk wisdom.
We are honored to invite Mr. Lui Ka Chun, a veteran food media professional and former Executive Editor of Eat & Travel Weekly, to join this exclusive sharing session. Having spent years traversing Hong Kong’s culinary landscape, Lui possesses a keen eye for the intricate human stories and spatial nuances within these local diners.
Throughout the exhibition's development, Lui served as a vital bridge, connecting our team with various Cha Chaan Tengs for in-depth research. His contribution of rare media archives and first-hand insights was instrumental in weaving fragmented information into the systematic "CODEX" presented today.
In this exhibition, Lui also shares his expertise as the Editor-in-Chief of the book Interior Sketch Series: Cha Chaan Teng in Hong Kong and Macau, guiding us to rediscover overlooked daily details through the lens of text and illustration. On the day of the event, Lui will walk through the various zones alongside the curators, offering a guided tour and sharing behind-the-scenes stories from his years of field reporting.
