PUMA's most iconic design of the millennial era, the "PUMA MOSTRO," derives its name from the Italian word for "monster." Its bold and eccentric appearance draws inspiration from the spiked racing shoes of the 1960s and the casual surf shoes of the 1980s, symbolizing the brand's significant exploration into the future of sports development. The designer of the MOSTRO, Peter Schmidt, began conceptualizing the sneaker by delving into PUMA's archives, using old materials as his starting point. Peter Schmidt first came across an old pair of surf shoes, which sparked the idea: "How cool would it be to have a similar lifestyle shoe?"

The design of the MOSTRO features asymmetrical Velcro straps and elastic bands, paired with a slim outsole that naturally conforms to the shape of the foot. Its textured rubber sole adds a layered look to the shoe. Using unconventional materials to create athletic shoes was certainly not the norm, but the experimental nature of the MOSTRO's design is evident—it could be made from virtually anything, leaving room for endless imagination.
