Humans are predominantly guided by vision in their physiological structure, yet hearing can also serve as another crucial sense for receiving external information and experiencing the world. Sound is a vital element in the ASMR experience.
Local sound artist Kin Lam will lead a workshop on listening as part of the ASMR exhibition, sharing intriguing and rarely explored methods of auditory perception. Participants are invited to bring an object of their own, which will be used with Kin’s custom-made microphones to uncover hidden sounds in everyday life. Through this alternative listening process, the workshop aims to spark interest in sound or even help participants discover their own unique perspective on listening.
The workshop will take place in the ASMR Arena, a space filled with over 1km long woven pillows, as part of the exhibition WEIRD SENSATION FEELS GOOD: the World of ASMR. In this comfortable and relaxing environment, participants can reimagine the act of "listening," connecting visual, auditory, and tactile senses to enjoy an alternative sensory experience.
*Participants are invited to bring an object of their choice—it can be anything. Feel free to imagine and select an item from the perspective of sound.
*WEIRD SENSATION FEELS GOOD: The World of ASMR Exhibition is co-presented by AIRSIDE, ArkDes (Sweden) and the Design Museum (London).
ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) is a physical sensation of deep calm and euphoria, often described as a "tingling" in the body. This cultural movement has grown into a global phenomenon that is, uniquely, rooted in kindness, empathy, and self-care.
